Commissioner of Police (DCP) Tarun Duggal on Sunday. DCP Duggal further stated, “Two of the accused, identified as Hitesh Mewada and Bharat Patel, have been arrested, with search operations ongoing for the remaining suspects.” The FIR, filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, will be transferred to the Gujarat University Police Station for further investigation.

Earlier on Saturday, a group of unidentified 20-25 individuals allegedly attacked foreign students, threw stones, and vandalized hostel rooms at Gujarat University in Ahmedabad while they were praying. Ahmedabad Commissioner of Police, GS Malik, detailed the incident, stating that around 300 foreign students study at Gujarat University, with approximately 75 residing in the A Block of the hostel.

“Last night around 10:30 pm, while a group of students were praying, 20-25 individuals approached, questioning their prayers and suggesting they pray at a mosque instead. An altercation ensued, leading to stone-throwing and vandalism of their rooms by the outsiders,” explained the commissioner.

Immediate action was taken by the police, with an FIR filed against the perpetrators. VC Neerja Arun Gupta confirmed the incident, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter and ongoing investigations.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reported being in contact with the Gujarat government regarding the incident, ensuring strict action against the attackers and noting that two foreign students were injured in the clash.
