Five youths were arrested in connection to a gang rape of a minor tribal girl in South Tripura. As per police, on 14 December, they received information that a minor girl under the jurisdiction of Santir Bazaar police station had been kidnapped. Accordingly, a case was registered under 70 clause 2 / 92 of BNS 2023 and Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
Speaking on the matter, Inspector Asutosh Sarma, officer-in-charge said, “Five people have been arrested because they kidnapped one minor girl from South Tripura on December 14 at 4:30 PM, and a case has been registered under 70 clause 2 / 92 of BNS 2023 and Section 6 of POCSO Act. The accused names are Shaktiyya Riang, Nivas Tripura, Subhash Riang, Lakshmidhan tripura, and Jiban tripura.”
Sarma said that immediately after police launched its investigation the victim girl was medically examined and the statement of the witness was recorded. Based on identification by the girl’s mother, five suspects have been arrested in connection to the case.
The accused were produced before the Bilonia District and Sessions Court. The case has been assigned to OC Jayanta Das of Manpathar Outpost.
Reportedly, on Saturday, the family of a minor girl had filed a written complaint at the Manpathar Outpost under the jurisdiction of Shanti Bazar police station regarding gang rape of their daughter by five youths.
The minor victim was abducted from her home and taken to a rubber plantation in the Mahondaira area of Paikhola where the five accused allegedly gang-raped her throughout the night. The next morning, the minor returned home and informed her mother about the incident.
