The Indian Medical Association (IMA), in a letter written to PM Narendra Modi, has asked the government to treat all doctors who lost their lives on the frontline of theCovid-19 pandemic as martyrs of the armed forces. IMA has also requested to give government jobs and compensation to the families of doctors who died due to Covid-19. The letter showed that more than 307 doctors lost their lives as of 3 August and a total of 2,006 of them have been infected. Also, 88 doctors who died were general practitioners who came indirect contact with positive cases. IMA has written this letter after a few months of announcement of special insurance of Rs 50 lakh by the centre for doctors, nurses, paramedics, technicians, and other healthcare professionals involved in the fight against Covid-19.
