India’s total Covid-19 recoveries have surpassed the active caseload by more than one crore, reported the Union Health Ministry on Monday, terming it a landmark achievement. While active cases in the country stand at 2,08,012, the total number of recoveries has touched 1,02,11,342.
“The gap between the two has progressively grown to touch 1,00,03,330. The total recovered cases are nearly 50 times the active cases in the country,” said the ministry.
However, India registered 13,962 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 10,572,672. Globally, more than 95.4 million people have been infected by the virus. The country continues to be second-most-affected globally, and ranks 13th among the worst-hit nations based on active cases. The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.
Delhi reported 161 new Covid-19 cases, 362 discharges and 8 deaths in the last 24 hours. Delhi›s Covid-19 caseload has risen to 6,32,590 with 161 new cases, while the toll has climbed to 10,754 as eight more people died.
Uttar Pradesh recorded four Covid-19 fatalities, the lowest in over six months, which took the death toll to 8,580. 379 fresh infections pushed the caseload to 5,96,904. The number of active cases in the state stands at 8,631. Four deaths, the lowest in the past six or seven months, were reported in the state the previous day and 622 people were discharged.
Seven people succumbed to Covid-19 in Punjab, bringing the state’s death toll to 5,509, while 140 fresh cases took the infection count to 1,70,729.
Bihar reported its 8th death due to coronavirus. Patna witnessed 57 out of 106 fresh COVID cases, making it the number one district in terms of positive cases in the state. The tally of positive Covid-19 cases has gone up to 1,284 in the state while Patna topped the list with 163 positive cases.
Kerala reported 3,346 fresh Covid-19 cases and 3,921 recoveries in the last 24 hours. The total number of active cases and recoveries in the state are 68,399 and 7,79,097, respectively.
Karnataka reported 435 new Covid-19 cases, 973 discharges and 9 deaths in the last 24 hours. Total cases rose to 9,32,432. 9,12,205 patients have also recovered so far. However, the death toll stands at 12,175 in the state. There are 8,033 active cases currently in the state.
The Covid-19 tally in Tamil Nadu touched 8,31,323 with the addition of 551 new cases in the past 24 hours, while eight more deaths, including that of a 103-year-old man, pushed the toll to 12,272.
Jammu and Kashmir recorded 82 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the infection tally to 1,23,425, while another death raised the toll to 1,922. 36 of the fresh Covid-19 cases were from Jammu division and 46 from Kashmir division.
