Tamil Nadu state BJP leader K. Annamalai lashed out at the DMK women’s conference held in Chennai on October 14 and said that Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were working for the revival of the DMK in Tamil Nadu.
Addressing the media on Sunday at the Coimbatore airport, Annamalai said, “The conference was a drama as DMK MP Kanimozhi conducted a conference in December 2022, where DMK youth wing members misbehaved with a woman constable. The constable was threatened by DMK leaders asking her not to speak about it in court. So DMK doesn’t have the right to talk about women’s rights.”
He also said that women leaders in the conference flayed PM Modi and raised questions about the Women’s Reservation Bill. Annamalai said, “Sharad Pawar’s daughter, Supriya Sule, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s wife, Dimple Yadav, and Kalaignar’s daughter, Kanimozhi, have charged the PM and questioned its implementation. We all know that the bill is for common women to help them to overcome various hurdles that they are facing in politics. The PM had already stated that it will be implemented after the next election.
However, during the Congress regime, the bill was not brought to Lok Sabha for four years, despite it being passed in the Rajya Sabha.” The saffron party leader was emphatic that the I.N.D.I.A bloc could not defeat the BJP in 2024. The results from the elections in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, and Telangana, scheduled for 3 December, will prove his words true, he said. “We have seven months before the elections in Tamil Nadu and we are working to strengthen the BJP in the state,” Annamalai added.
Reporters also quizzed him about the release of Muslim convicts which was raised in the Tamil Nadu Assembly recently. “We are not linking any religion with terrorism. Those who were involved in unpardonable crimes cannot come out of jail. How can a government release terrorists who killed innocent people? We hope the Tamil Nadu government does not release them. TN governor Ravi will not allow the release of terrorists,” he said.
