Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Saayonni Ghosh was arrested in Tripura after being summoned to the police station by Tripura police on Sunday. After a long interrogation, the police arrested her this afternoon. She is accused of trying to hit a BJP supporter with her car. Tripura police have filed a case of attempted murder against her. Trinamool general secretary Abhishek Banerjee reached Tripura on Sunday night after the incident.
Tripura police filed a case against Saayoni Ghosh under non-bailable section of IPC. It is learned that a case has been filed against the Trinamool Youth President under Sections 120B, 506, 153 and 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The Trinamool youth leader will have to spend the night in police custody.
Annoyed after her arrest, Saayoni said, “Political struggle has never been in the BJP’s syllabus and will never be in the future. The people of India cannot be silenced by the arrogance of power, the administration and the use of hooliganism. The grassroots soldiers will not allow democracy to be misled in this way.”
The political climate in Tripura has been quite hot since this morning. A large contingent of Tripura women police arrived at a private hotel in Agartala around 11 am on Sunday. TMC leader Kunal Ghosh, MP Sushmita Dev, Saayoni Ghosh and other leaders were present there. After getting the news from the hotel employees, the grassroots leadership came there one by one. They wanted to know from the police the reason for their sudden arrival. Police officials said that Ghosh had to go to the police station once as the police had wanted to question her.
It is learned that a person named Biswajit Debnath has lodged a complaint with the police against Saayoni. It is heard that the Trinamool youth leader said to the ruling party of Tripura at that time, “There were 50 people in the meeting of the Chief Minister of Tripura. More than that is seen in the meeting of our candidates.” According to sources, she started arguing with the BJP workers present there. Saayoni then tried to drive out of the crowd. The BJP claimed that several people were injured in the incident.
BJP leaders in Tripura said, “Trinamool is heating up the air in Tripura by getting hired people from Bengal. Trinamool wants to disturb Tripura. Ordinary people are afraid of the TMC. ”
However, the TMC leadership is claiming that this whole allegation is completely baseless. Sushmita Dev said that Saayoni is being framed in a false case. She thinks that such false allegations are being made to disrupt the meeting of Abhishek Banerjee. Trinamool leader Subal Bhowmik of Tripura is saying the same thing. According to him, the police are working under the direction of BJP. Terrible situation is going on in Tripura he said and compared such incidents with “jungle raj”.
Meanwhile, Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to leave for New Delhi on Monday. This time the situation in Tripura has made Mamata’s visit to Delhi more politically important. According to Trinamool sources, a Trinamool delegation may approach President Ramnath Kovind on the Tripura issue. They can complain to the President. A meeting of the Trinamool Parliamentary Committee has been called in Delhi on Monday. The meeting will take a final decision on the Tripura issue to the President. Time will be sought from the President.
