Thousands of hardline Islamist organisation Hefazat-e-Islam supporters attacked a Hindu village in Sunamgan last week after a Hindu man criticised the group joint-secretary general Mawlana Mufti Mamunul’s speech in a social media post. Thirty-three people have so far been arrested over the incident, police said. The three new suspects were apprehended at villages in Derai upazila of the district during an overnight drive, Shalla police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazmul Haque said on Sunday, reported Dhaka Tribune.
The prime suspect, Shahidul Islam Swadhin, was apprehended at Gurabhui village on Saturday. He has been produced before a court in Sunamganj with a remand petition for his interrogation.
Two cases were filed with Shalla police station over the incident. One of the cases was lodged by police against 1,500 unidentified people while the other case, which named Swadhin as an instigator, was filed by Habibpur Union Parishad Chairman Vivekananda Majumder, Dhaka Tribune reported.
A young Hindu man from Noagaon, Shalla upazila allegedly made a Facebook post criticising Mamunul, who opposed the sculpture of Bangabandhu on Tuesday. After this, a mob with makeshift weapons attacked the village on Wednesday, Dhaka Tribune reported.
According to the police, 70-80 houses were vandalised in the incident. The Hindu man was detained the same night to calm the Hefazat supporters, said Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Haque.
Habibpur union chairman Vivekananda Majumder Bakul said several houses in the village had been attacked. Many local Hindus fled their homes to save themselves. The followers of Hefazat-e-Islam entered the village, ransacked and looted many houses.
An umbrella platform for ulema (religious scholars), Hefazat-e-Islam was established in 2010 in Chittagong ostensibly to defend Islam from ruling Awami League’s allegedly anti-Islamic policies, especially a proposed policy to confer equal inheritance rights to women.

PM MODI TO LAUNCH AYUSHMAN BHARAT DIGITAL MISSION TODAY
The mission will enable access and exchange of longitudinal health records of citizens with their consent.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission on September 27, 2021, at 11 am via video conferencing, which will be followed by his address on the occasion, informed the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Sunday.
According to the PMO, the pilot project of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission had been announced by the Prime Minister from the ramparts of Red Fort on August 15, 2020. Currently, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission is being implemented in the pilot phase in six Union Territories. The nation-wide rollout of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission coincides with NHA celebrating the third anniversary of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). Union Health Minister will be present on the occasion.
Based on the foundations laid down in the form of Jan Dhan, Aadhaar and Mobile (JAM) trinity and other digital initiatives of the government, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission will create a seamless online platform through the provision of a wide range of data, information and infrastructure services, duly leveraging open, interoperable, standards-based digital systems while ensuring the security, confidentiality and privacy of health-related personal information.
The Mission will enable access and exchange of longitudinal health records of citizens with their consent.
The key components of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission include a health ID for every citizen that will also work as their health account, to which personal health records can be linked and viewed with the help of a mobile application; a Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR) and Healthcare Facilities Registries (HFR) that will act as a repository of all healthcare providers across both modern and traditional systems of medicine.
This will ensure ease of doing business for doctors/hospitals and healthcare service providers.
Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission Sandbox, created as a part of the Mission, will act as a framework for technology and product testing that will help organizations, including private players, intending to be a part of the National Digital Health Ecosystem become a Health Information Provider or Health Information User or efficiently link with building blocks of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
This Mission will create interoperability within the digital health ecosystem, similar to the role played by the Unified Payments Interface in revolutionizing payments. Citizens will only be a click away from accessing healthcare facilities.

YOGI EXPANDS U.P. CABINET, PRASADA, SIX OTHERS TAKE OATH AS MINISTERS
Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections that are scheduled to be held next year, Jitin Prasada, who joined the BJP from Congress in June this year, took oath as a minister in the state Cabinet led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday.
On 9 June, Prasada had joined the BJP. The Brahmin leader from UP had jumped ship amid the saffron party’s internal worries about the thin representation of the community in the party. His departure was a blow to the Congress party after former Union Cabinet minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had joined the BJP in March 2020. Apart from Prasada, six other BJP MLAs got a berth in the Yogi Adityanath-led cabinet on Sunday.
These six BJP MLAs—Chhatrapal Singh, Paltu Ram, Sangita Balwant, Sanjeev Kumar, Dharmvir Singh and Dinesh Khatik—took oath as ministers of state (MoS) in the Uttar Pradesh government.
Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel administered the oath of office to them. This is the fourth BJP-ruled state where a major rejig is happening after Gujarat, Karnataka and Uttarakhand.
Earlier in the month, Bhupendra Patel was sworn in as Gujarat’s new chief minister replacing Vijay Rupani. The entire Gujarat cabinet was changed subsequently.
In Uttarakhand, the BJP had changed its CM three times. After Trivendra Singh Rawat resigned as CM, Tirath Singh Rawat had taken the charge. But he was later replaced by Pushkar Singh Dhami. In Karnataka, B.S. Yediyurappa was replaced by Basavaraj Bommai in July.
The BJP will be fighting next year’s Assembly polls, most likely to be held in February, under the leadership of CM Adityanath. Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Dinesh Sharma, in an interview with PTI, had earlier said that “the central leadership has already made it clear that the party will contest the election under Yogi Adityanath ji to return to power”.
