GSB Seva Mandal’s MahaGanapati, known as India’s wealthiest Lord Ganesha idol, situated at King’s Circle, Mumbai, has secured an astonishing insurance cover worth Rs 360.40 crore this year.
Fondly referred to as Navsala Pavnara Vishwacha Raja by devotees due to his renowned miracles and divine blessings, this Lord Ganesha idol has taken proactive measures to protect its assets, jewelry, and funds.
Amit D. Pai, Spokesperson and Trustee of GSB Seva Mandal, emphasized the significance of insurance in their preparations for the upcoming Ganeshotsav celebrations.
He stated that in 2022, they obtained insurance coverage of a record Rs 316.40 crore, and this year, it has been increased to Rs 360.40 crores.
The opulent MahaGanapati is adorned with over 66 kg of gold ornaments, 295 kg of silver, and various precious items, usually donated by devotees and Sevedars. This year marks the 69th year of Lord MahaGanapati’s arrival, with the unveiling event scheduled for September 17, 2023, and Ganeshotsav celebrations taking place from September 19 to September 23, 2023. The Seva Mandal offers around 60,000 poojas or sevas and serves Annadaan Seva to over 20,000 people during the festivities. To maintain environmental balance, the idol is crafted from eco-friendly materials, including specific clay (Shaadu Maati), grass, and naturally extracted watercolors.
