Lt General Rajeev Chaudhry, Director General Border Roads visited the upcoming Himank Air Dispatch Unit at Chandigarh and inspected the ongoing construction works of the world’s largest 3D concrete printed campus.
On the occasion, DGBR commended the successful efforts of the Border Road Organisation (BRO) in strengthening the infrastructure of Roads along the Borders in the far-flung areas of the country. He said that in the last few years, BRO projects were completed in a speedy manner due to advanced technology & and enhanced Budget. BRO is constructing roads, tunnels, and bridges in the Border areas.
Under the Government of India’s schemes, BRO is connecting the people living in the countryside by constructing Roads in the border areas.
Around 300 BRO projects worth Rs. 8000 crore were completed during the last few years.
The Central Government increased the 2% budget for BRO projects for the current financial year. A BRO museum with 3D technology is also under the pipeline in Laddakh.
Briefing on the 3D Technology Building of BRO Chandigarh, DGBR said that BRO and L&T Construction have joined hands to create a world-class facility “Himank Air Dispatch unit at Chandigarh featuring state of the Art 3D printing technology”. The campus hosts various facilities catering accommodation for officers, Junior commission officers, and other ranks along with an administrative building and storage facilities, in a site of area 1.98 acres.
The concept behind this facility is Biophilic design. The landscape extends from the ground to the buildings in the form of terraces, gardens, and balconies. These spaces act like rejuvenating outdoor areas that contribute as passive design features along the lines of sustainability. This demonstrates L&T’s capability to design and build 3D-printed buildings with G+2 configuration. The campus emerged out of L&T’s in-house design and latest construction technology with fast construction techniques. The facility hosts six building blocks. Five of the six building blocks are constructed using 3D printing technology and 1 block makes use of precast technology. 3D printing technology along with solar studies and building simulations is used to create the climate-sensitive built form. The result is a 180mm thick wall. These walls can also integrate the MEP services. The 3D printable concrete was completely developed and tailor-made to suit Chandigarh’s climatic conditions. Once completed the facility will act as a transit detachment responsible for the movement of men and material to the Ladakh region for the Border Roads Organisation. HAD Campus shall stand tall as a testimony to the adoption of this latest technology by BRO for the first time with such speed and scale. Building a World Class Facility involves the use of world-class technologies that are robust, sustainable, and indigenously developed.
“BRO’s Himank air dispatch unit facility at Chandigarh” resonates with the true essence of Atmanirbhar Bharat demonstrating our nation’s ability in the field of 3D concrete printing technology, setting a global benchmark.
Among others, who were present on occasion were Sh. Harendra Kumar, ADG BRO, Chandigarh; Brig.Gaurav S Karki, Chief Engineer Project Himank(Leh); Col.K S Lavana, Commander 753 Taskforce Project Himank and the team of L&T construction led by Sh.Ramachandra SA, Project Manager
