The Paralympic Games are set to kick off in Paris, with approximately 4,400 athletes preparing to compete for 549 medals across 22 sports over the next 11 days. The French capital, fresh off its Olympic Games, will again showcase some of the most iconic venues, including Place de la Concorde, Château de Versailles, and the Grand Palais.

A Spectacular Venue Lineup

The historic Place de la Concorde, which hosted Olympic skateboarding and 3×3 basketball, will now welcome the Paralympic opening ceremony. Equestrian events return to the elegant Château de Versailles, while the Grand Palais transitions from fencing to wheelchair fencing. Para archery will be held at Invalides, and blind soccer, a modified version of football for visually impaired players, will take place at the venue near the Eiffel Tower.

Alexis Hanquinquant, France’s para triathlon champion, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming events, saying, “Paris is the most beautiful city in the world. I think we’re going to have some pretty exceptional Paralympic Games.”

  • Bebe Vio: The Italian fencer will compete for her third consecutive gold in wheelchair fencing.

The games will also feature inspiring stories such as:

  • Valentina Petrillo: The visually impaired Italian sprinter will become the first transgender woman to compete at the Paralympics.
  • Ali Truwit: The American swimmer is competing a year after losing her lower leg in a shark attack.
  • David Kratochvil: The Czech teenager, who switched from ice hockey to swimming after losing his sight, aims for a medal in the 50 and 200 meter backstroke.
