Over-the-top (OTT) streaming service Netflix has a new and much-anticipated series in its fold. After the Bombay High Court on Thursday rejected the CBI’s plea opposing the streaming, the documentary series on Indrani Mukerjea – who is on trial for the alleged death of her daughter Sheena Bora- was released on Netflix.

The documentary series, named “The Indrani Mukerjea Story: The Buried Truth,” explores the mystery surrounding the 25-year-old Bora’s disappearance and was initially slated to launch on Netflix on February 23.

The High Court ordered the documentary’s producers to postpone its release after the CBI filed a motion in court, claiming the film may have an impact on the legal system. The CBI’s request for a stay of proceedings until the case’s trial was over was denied by the court on Thursday, when it permitted its release.

In April 2012, Bora was allegedly strangled to death in a car by Mukerjea, her driver at the time, Shyamvar Rai, and her ex-husband, Sanjeev Khanna.

Mukerjea’s daughter from a prior relationship was named Bora. In the Raigad district of Maharashtra, her body was set ablaze in a jungle.

After Rai confessed to the murder after being arrested in a different case, the murder became public knowledge in 2015. August 2015 saw Mukerjea’s arrest, and in May 2022, he was granted bail. Rai, Khanna, and Indrani’s ex-husband Peter Mukerjea, the other suspects in the case, are also out on bond.
