The General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee and former Union Minister Kumari Selja said that the central government of the BJP, which had promised to make laws on MSP for farmers, is now resorting to lathis and bullets. Instead of allowing farmers to peacefully reach the capital of their own country, it is reprehensible to stop them on the way and behave with them like dictators. The government should resolve the farmers’ agitation through dialogue instead of crushing it with force.
In a statement released to the media, Kumari Selja said that the farmers of Punjab had been reminding the central government of its promises for a long time. They were announcing a march to Delhi in case their demands were not met, but the authoritarian government sitting in Delhi paid no attention to their concerns. And now, when the farmers have set out for Delhi, the BJP-JJP alliance government in the state is ordering police to fire rubber bullets and conduct lathi charges against them. They are making them shed tears, resorting to lathi charges. It is heartbreaking that while farmers are being pushed to suicide due to debt, the central government does not have enough funds to waive off the debts of 62 crore farmers in the country.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has forgiven his few industrialist friends’ debts of 10,50,000 crore in one stroke. It is evident that the BJP-led central government is anti-farmer and anti-laborer. It’s a government only for the capitalists. Kumari Selja said that the country’s small and large economic activities run because of the farmers. Even a small shop of rent runs only when there is money in the farmer’s pocket. Sales of new products in the market increase only after a good harvest.
But, under BJP’s rule, farmers are not getting the right price for their produce. The central government and BJP-led state governments are continuously harassing farmers, and discriminating against them. The former Union Minister Selja said that the Prime Minister and his central government should abandon their stubbornness. They should immediately invite farmer leaders for talks. When farmers want to go to Delhi, they have the right to reach the capital and express their views. They should be welcomed in Delhi, not shot at or lathi-charged. Selja said that the BJP government’s dictatorship is at its peak, and if the situation continues like this in the country and the states, then the internal situation of the country can definitely become adverse to the people.
