On Saturday, the Congress retaliated against Union Home Minister Amit Shah for equating the party’s rallies with the anniversary of the founding of the Ram temple, claiming that the BJP was attempting to distract public attention by using its lone weapon, “Ram.”
A number of Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, were held by police during dramatic standoffs outside Parliament and the AICC headquarters in New Delhi on Friday as they took to the streets wearing black to protest against price rises and unemployment.
Shah used the Congress party’s “appeasement” politics to connect the party’s opposition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s laying of the foundation for the Ram temple on this day in 2020 with the Congress leaders’ protest in black clothing over the issues of unemployment and price increases.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a Congress member, responded to Shah’s remarks by saying that the party was protesting “astronomical price increases and an unparalleled rate of unemployment, which they (BJP) can’t tolerate”.
Chowdhury said, “In the name of ‘Ram’, this government has been worshipping ‘Raavan’. People are afflicted under their rule. The Congress has exposed this government as anti-people and pro-corporate. “
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh accused the ruling party of desperately attempting to “divert, distract, polarize, and give a malicious twist” to the opposition’s protests over price increases.
Taking to the micro-blogging site, he said, “It’s only a sick mind that can produce such bogus arguments. Clearly, the protests have hit home. “
According to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, combating the load of inflation bearing down on the nation’s poor and middle class is the road paved by Lord Ram.
