Workers from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) demonstrated against the detention and arrest of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister and TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday in Chittoor. The Road Transport Corporation (RTC) bus left the depot as the TDP activists threw rocks at it in the Chittoor district. Tires were also blown up on the road by protesters.

The TDP has requested a bandh throughout the state as a show of support for TDP leader Nara Chandrababu, who was detained and taken into custody in connection with the alleged skill development case. All over the state, Section 144 has been enforced by the AP police. As a preventive measure to uphold law and order in the state, state police attempted to detain a number of party leaders, including TDP MLC Kancherla Srikanth, on Monday in the Chittoor district.

While the police were attempting to place TDP MLC Srikanth under arrest, he staged a sit-in on the street and yelled anti-Jagan Mohan Reddy protests. In Tirupati and West Godavari districts, protests were also held in opposition to Chandrababu Naidu’s detention and arrest. The Andhra Pradesh Criminal Investigation Department (CID) detained Naidu on Saturday in connection with a purported corruption case.

He was later sent to judicial custody on Sunday for 14 days, till September 23, by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court in Vijayawada in connection with the alleged Skill Development Corporation scam.
The case pertains to the establishment of clusters of Centers of Excellence (CoEs) in the state of Andhra Pradesh, with a total estimated project value of Rs 3300 crore, as per the officials.
