Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) announced the retirement of Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Executive Director N Ganapathy Subramaniam, effective May 20. The announcement was made during the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call for the fiscal year 2023-24 and was also filed with the stock exchange on May 19.

Subramaniam, who has been with TCS for over 40 years, joined the company in 1982 after earning a Master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Madras. He also attended the Executive Program for Growing Companies at Stanford University. Before becoming COO in February 2017, Subramaniam served as the Executive Vice President and Head of TCS Financial Solutions.

TCS CEO and MD K Krithivasan announced that there are no plans to appoint a replacement for Subramaniam. Instead, his duties will be redistributed among the current leadership team. “He’s been doing many things, and no single individual can replace him. Our current thinking is to redistribute the work he’s been doing, and we don’t intend to appoint a new COO,” Krithivasan said during a press conference following the March quarter earnings.

In an email to employees, Krithivasan expressed gratitude for Subramaniam’s contributions, highlighting his commitment to client centricity and the TCS culture. “NGS has led the organization across key roles for over four decades, providing immense, selfless, and invaluable service to the company. His contributions to the journey of our organization are immeasurable,” Krithivasan wrote.

The retirement of Subramaniam marks the end of an era at TCS, where his leadership and dedication have left a lasting impact on the company’s operations and culture.
