As a unique initiative for tuberculosis awareness, a friendly 20-over cricket match titled “TB Mukt Bharat Awareness Cricket Match” was organized today at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi. The game had two teams consisting of Members of Parliament: the Rajya Sabha Chairman XI led by Kiren Rijiju and the Lok Sabha Speaker XI, captained by Anurag Singh Thakur.

The match was held under the auspices of Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla with an aim to focus attention on the need to fight against tuberculosis in India. Both the teams displayed vigor and cooperation with MPs of different parties, putting behind their party differences, cheering for the cause. Spectators were thrilled as the stadium erupted with a flavour of bonhomie and competitive fervour.
This match reminds us of the power of sports to unite people for a greater purpose. The event, by using cricket’s popularity in India, will bring attention to the National TB Elimination Program and inspire action towards making India tuberculosis-free by 2025.
