Team Tamil Nadu became the first team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to achieve 500+ runs on Monday, as there were runs galore.
In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, many records were broken when Tamil Nadu advanced to score 506/2 in the allotted 50 overs. The batsman for Tamil Nadu, Narayan Jagadeesan, had his greatest game against Arunachal Pradesh, scoring 277 runs with 25 fours and 15 sixes. This record was previously held by England, which scored 498 runs against the Netherlands in an ODI before the Tamil Nadu team’s outstanding performance.
In the course of the game, Jagadeesan broke the record for the most runs scored by a batter in List A cricket. Alistair Brown of Surrey, who scored 268 runs against Glamorgan in 2002, was eclipsed by Jagadeesan.
The first team in List-A cricket to share a 400-plus run partnership was Jagadeesan and Sai Sudarshan. In just 38.3 overs, the pair put together an opening stand of 416 runs.
The batter from Tamil Nadu, Jagadeesan, has more consecutive centuries than Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara in List A cricket history. The batter reached this milestone while playing for his team against Arunachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India’s premier domestic 50-over cricket tournament, which is currently in progress.
He reached his fifth consecutive hundred in the competition during the game. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he also holds the record for the most consecutive tonnes in a single season, surpassing players like Virat Kohli, Prithvi Shaw, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Devdutt Padikkal, who have each scored four centuries.
With 624 runs scored in six games at an average of 156.00 and counting, Jagadeesan is also the tournament’s top run scorer so far.
He has now surpassed Kumar Sangakara, who had four straight centuries during the 2015 Cricket World Cup. In the tournament, he scored 541 runs at an average of 108.20, including 105 against Bangladesh, 117 against England, 104 against Australia, and 124 against Scotland.
