Tamil Nadu: AIU Trichy seizes gold worth Rs 23.84 lakhs

According to a press release issued on Friday, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) in Trichy successfully intercepted and confiscated gold valued at Rs. 23.84 lakhs in three distinct cases.

The Deputy Commissioner of Trichy Customs explained, “In the initial case, a passenger from Kuala Lumpur had concealed a piece of gold in their pants pocket. In the subsequent two cases, gold had been hidden as buttons on a pair of jeans and sprayed onto a transparent sheet covering a carton box, both belonging to passengers arriving from Kuala Lumpur. In total, 401 grams of gold with a total worth of Rs. 23.84 lakhs were discovered and confiscated.”

On a previous occasion, on September 23, the customs air intelligence unit at Trichy airport thwarted an attempt to smuggle approximately 348.00 grams of gold in the form of a concealed paste within a pair of jeans. This gold, valued at Rs. 20,84,868, was seized from a passenger who had arrived from Singapore on an Air India flight, as confirmed by officials.

In a separate incident, another passenger arriving from Singapore on an Air India flight was apprehended, and customs officials seized 349.00 grams of gold worth Rs. 20,90,859.
