Months before the 2024 T20 World Cup begins, both the ICC and Cricket West Indies have confirmed the placement of a “comprehensive and robust security plan.”

This assurance comes days after Trinidad & Tobago Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, gave confirmation, that security agencies of West Indies are vigilant against the possible terror attack threatening the event.

Why This Confirmation?

Recently, the T20 world cup in Americas has recently received a terror threat. As per the media reports, the threat is particularly specific to West Indies which will host the entire Super 8 stage with finals and Semi-finals in June 28 besides preliminary matches.

Speaking about terrorism Rowley said “Unfortunately, the threat of terrorism in its many and varied expressions is an ever-present danger in the world of the 21st century.” to Trindad Daily Express.

Even though Rowley didn’t name any organization, but as per some reports, it is the Islamic state which has made the threat through its propaganda channel.

Later, the ICC and CWI both gave an assurance to their stakeholders that all the security measures are in place.

“We work closely with authorities in the host countries and cities, and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event,”…”We want to assure all stakeholders that safety and security of everyone at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is our number one priority and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place.” said the statement.

The 2024 T20 World Cup will be jointly hosted by USA and West Indies, under which, six (out of 9) of the matches will be played in west Indies and three will be played in USA.

The tournament will last from June 1 to 29, with Barbados hosting the final.
