CHANDIGARH: “Sushma Swaraj was seen as an epitome of Indian culture with a blend of modern thinking and traditional values and always respectful towards seniors,” said Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu while delivering the first Sushma Swaraj Memorial Lecture organised virtually by Panjab University on her death anniversary.

While remembering Swaraj, Naidu said, “She was one of the most popular Indian Ministers in recent times. She was a wonderful human being, always considerate and prompt in responding to any issue.” She made a mark as a dynamic leader and added many firsts to her career which only portrays that she was very popular with people. She was a multilingual, brilliant orator with apt use of words, he added. Appreciating the efforts of PU in organising the first memorial lecture, he stressed that he is proud to be the Chancellor of the University which has produced a Parliamentarian and Leader like Sushma Swaraj. The memorial lectures or commemoration events are meant to not only pay tributes but also inspire the younger generation to emulate the qualities of great men and women, he said. Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of late Sushma Swaraj, was also present in the virtual memorial lecture along with 800 PU faculty, researchers and students.

Sushma Swaraj was 67-years-old when she died last year due to health complications that made her stay away from taking any ministerial position in the second term of the Modi government.
