In honour of India’s 77th Independence Day, the Urvashi Dance Music Art & Cultural Society presented a mesmerising dance ballet with the theme “Swadheenta, Festival of Freedom.” The purpose of this celebration was to honour the brave freedom fighters who fought courageously to ensure India’s independence. The Urvashi Dance Music Art & Cultural Society created this dance ballet to commemorate the 77th Independence Day in recognition of the tremendous ability of music and dance to express emotions and highlight the developments made so far, contributing in making India a Vishwa Guru once again. The dance ballet commenced with a heartfelt homage to the motherland, India, embodied in the theme “Janani Janambhoomi.” This opening act was brought to life with the accompaniment of live tabla and piano, setting the perfect ambiance for the event. Following this was a sublime Kathak performance, exuding a sense of divinity. A gracious contemporary performance by Odissi and Bharatnatyam was next, which displayed our first Independence Day, August 15, 1947. The event continued with a remarkable act that combined Modern Yoga and Acro-Yoga was created as a tribute to YOGA, which originated in India and has since spread around the world. The Bharatanatyam dancers created beautiful constructions to represent yoga in a never-before-seen avatar. Other performances of the evening include a Kathak dance on Women Empowerment, a light show to demonstrate Digital India, a spectacular NatyaShastra performance to give an ode to our Gods who invented dance. The final performance was the highlight of the event as it presented ‘Unity in Diversity’, a unique dance performance on a song in multiple Indian languages to represent India’s cultural diversity.
Talking about the event, Dr Rekha Mehra said, “The aim of this event was to support underprivileged children and provide them with a chance to showcase their talents in front of an audience.
