Cleanliness Survey 2023 by the Ministry of Urban and Housing has been a nightmare for Haryana as no city of state in all categories could secure any position among top 100 cities in the country. Moreover, the state remained out of the list of top ten clean states securing 14th position with an overall score of 1958.01, a setback to the state. Ambala cantonment board succeeded in getting 23rd position with 2594.4 points among the list of clean cantonment boards in the survey. Rohtak and Gohana secured 471 and 1288 positions in the National ranking respectively. Rohtak has topped the list of clean cities with a population of one lakh or above within the state and likewise, Gohana which falls in sonipat district has secured first position among the cities with population below one lakh. Apart from this, CM City Karnal and Kalka have got second position in aforementioned both categories of cities in terms of population followed by Beri and Panchkula of Jhajjar districts.

Further, Gurugram and Nilokheri cities have secured fourth cities among cities with one ;lakh population or above and cities with below one lakh population respectively followed by Jhajjar Municipal Council and Bahadurgarh Municipal Council which have jointly secured fifth position in the state. Similarly Panipat and Fatehabad occupied sixth position, followed by Hisar and Narayangarh respectively. Among the districts with one lakh population or above, Ambala, Yamunanagar and Ambala Sadar remained in eighth, ninth and tenth position. Jhajjar district adjoining Rohtak managed to make it in the list among top five clean cities in the state. Apart from this, Beri municipality slipped in ranking and could secure third position against its second position in the 2022 survey.

President Draupadi Murmu honored Gohana Municipal Council with an award after it was declared the cleanest city. It is pertinent to mention that Jhajjar Municipal Council had achieved 4th ranking in North India zonal ranking last year, witnessed a declining status and could secure 68th rank. Likewise, Bahadurgarh Municipal Council also witnessed a declining status in survey in 2023
