In a significant development, the Jammu and Kashmir Police detained a surrendered terrorist on Tuesday evening near a key installation of the Indian Army in Jammu city.
The individual, identified as Bashir Ahmad, hails from Rajouri district and was apprehended by the intelligence wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police while he was roaming in the warehouse area.
Officials reported that Bashir Ahmad was detained by a team of District Special Branch due to his suspicious movement near the warehouse in Jammu. Originally from Ghambir Brahmana village in Rajouri, Ahmad is recognized as a surrendered militant and Over Ground Worker (OGW). Currently residing in Lane No. 5 behind Makka Masjid, Bathindi, he was found in possession of a mobile phone and a SIM card. The detention comes in the wake of heightened security concerns, and the police have been maintaining vigilance in sensitive areas.
This incident follows a recent alert issued by the Jammu and Kashmir Police in response to an incident on January 20, where a vehicle, forcefully commandeered by three suspects, entered the Jammu region.
The incident was reported by Mehraj Bhat, the driver of a Tavera vehicle, who informed the police about the suspects boarding the vehicle at the Arwani underpass on NH 44. The destination changed multiple times, culminating in the vehicle being overpowered at Tangan Bypass.
The case has been registered at Police Station Nowgam, and the whereabouts of the vehicle since crossing Nashri Tunnel near Udhampur remain unknown.
The police are actively investigating the matter to ensure the safety and security of the region.
