Sushant Singh Rajput’s former assistant Sabir Ahmed told The Daily Guardian that the late actor did not have a habit of locking the door, which is why he was surprised to know that Rajput’s room was locked when he apparently committed suicide. “He never locked his door and slept. He was always busy with film shoots and other work, so we used to wake him up in the morning,” said Ahmed.
The actor lived in a duplex flat with a sea-facing bedroom on an upper floor. According to Ahmed, Rajput was an easygoing and hardworking person. “Sushant was a lovely human being. He was always busy reading or playing video games. He was not religious. On important days like his birthday, he used to distribute food among the needy, and sometimes visited an orphanage for blessings,” said Ahmed. “After returning from Europe, he fell sick and was admitted in a hospital. He seemed to be depressed,” he added.
Ahmed worked with Rajput until his film Chhichhore released in theatres. Ahmed claims that is when he went to his home in Assam and upon his return to Mumbai found that Rhea Chakraborty had been looking after the house and had sacked other maids and assistants.
Ahmed further refuted media reports of a rift between Rajput and his sisters. “When I was staying with him, his sister used to visit the house on a regular basis. Sushant would spend time with his sister — I have never seen them fight,” said Ahmed.
