The Surat Sessions Court today granted bail to Rahul Gandhi in the defamation case over his remark on the Modi surname during his Lok Sabha campaign in Karnataka in April 2019. The case will be heard next on 13 April.

Earlier, a war of words erupted between the BJP and Congress as a huge number of party workers and family members accompanied Rahul Gandhi during his appeal against a court order that convicted him regarding his remark on the Modi surname.

The BJP alleged that the party’s stance is crystal clear: “One family is bigger than the country.” The Opposition hit back strongly, saying it was the ‘fight against corruption’.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said, “We will fight against injustice.” It was not a show of strength. He is our leader. Everyone goes to stand by a leader. This is a party, and we are fighting for the country. We will get there.
