The Supreme Court in the case Ambedkar Association for Development v. Union of India And Ors observed and has directed the Union Of India to fill the vacancy pending in the 6th National Commission for Scheduled Castes.
In the present case, the plea was moved in the court wherein seeking to pass the directions to fill the vacancies in the Commission in 2017.
The bench comprising of CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha, and Justice JB Pardiwala was hearing the present matter.
The court in the case noted that earlier the vacancies that existed in the National Commission for Scheduled Castes had already been filled.
Thus, the vacancies still existed and needs to be fill in the 6th National Commission for Scheduled Castes.
Further, the Union of India in the case also informed the bench that the vacancies has already been filed for the Chairperson, Vice chairperson, and two members of the Commission and at present, there being only one vacancy that still existed and needs to be fill.
The bench headed by CJI Chandrachud in its order stated and has remarked that for the 6th commission, thus, the affidavit has been filed by the Union of India wherein stating that the Chairperson, Vice chairperson, and two members are already in place but there being only one vacancy that still existed and needs to be fill.
The court stated that Union of India to ensure that it the vacancy is being filled expeditiously.
