Supreme Court: Plea To Be Heard Of Alleged Gangster Sanjeev Jeeva’s Wife To Attend His Funeral

The Supreme Court in the case observed and has stated to hear the plea on June 09, 2023 of Payal Maheshwari, the wife of the alleged gangster Sanjiv Maheshwari ‘Jeeva’ who seek permission to attend his funeral.
The bench headed comprising of Justice Aniruddha Bose and Justice Rajesh Bindal was hearing the present plea.
In the present case, Jeeva is said to be the close aide of Mukhtar Ansari and was shot dead by unidentified assailants who are inside the premises of Lucknow court yesterday and his name had surfaced in the murder of senior BJP leaders Brahmadutt Dwivedi and Krishnanand Rai. However, Payal herself is charged as a gangster. Thus, the counsel appearing for her stated that he was arguing before the court solely on humanitarian grounds and not on the merits of the matter. Further, it has also been argued by her that Payal Maheswari must be provided one day protection to attend the funeral.
Further, it has been submitted by the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Additional Advocate General (AAG) Ardhendumauli K Prasad that she being one of the gangsters who is named in the chart and as far as the funeral is concerned, I am not even getting into that.
It has also been requested by the petitioner in the case that the said court is to ensure that no coercive action should be taken against Maheshwari in the meantime. Thus, the counsel appearing for the petitioner stated that I have to give this consolation to my family, my lord, the petitioner has three sons and one daughter.
It has also been informed by the said court that the body of the deceased was to be taken from Lucknow to Muzaffarnagar, the hometown of the family.
The court in the case observed that after Jeeva was shot dead, in an official statement, Lucknow Police Commissioner S B Shiradkar stated that Sanjeev Maheshwari Jeeva who was held in Lucknow jail was being brought up to the court for hearing in a case and was shot dead by the unknown assailant.
Accordingly, the court listed the matter to be next heard on June 09, 2023.
