The Supreme Court Collegium recommended the elevation of three high court judges to the position of chief justice on Wednesday, as well as the transfer of two chief justices and three judges.

The chief justice of the Orissa high court, Justice S Muralidhar, has been transferred to the Madras high court. Pankaj Mithal, the chief justice of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh high courts, has been transferred to the Rajasthan high court.

The Collegium, which included Chief Justice of India UU Lalit and justices Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud and Sanjay Kishan Kaul, recommended that Jaswant Singh be appointed as chief justice of the Orissa high court and Ali Mohammad Magrey as chief justice of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh high courts.

The Collegium also recommended that Prasanna B Varale, a Bombay high court judge, be appointed as the chief justice of the Karnataka high court.

According to a statement issued by the Supreme Court, Sanjaya Kumar Mishra will be transferred from the Uttarakhand high court to the Jharkhand high court. Justice K Vinod Chandran has been transferred from the Kerala High Court to the Bombay High Court. Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh has been transferred from the Jharkhand High Court to Tripura.
