The two judicial officers, Shailender Kaur and Ravinder Dudeja, sworn in as the as the additional judges of the Delhi High Court. The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the appointment of them as Delhi High Court judges on October 10, 2023.
The Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma administered the oath of office to the newly appointed judges. The Central Government has notified the appointments of them. Therefore, the announcement was made by Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on X i.e., the formerly Twitter.
The Supreme Court Collegium stated that the Delhi High Court’s Chief Justice, in consultation with his two senior-most colleagues recommend the elevation of judicial officers.
The Supreme Court Collegium with regards to the appointment of judge Shailender Kaur in its resolution stated that the Judgment Evaluation Committee has given an ‘A’ rating to the judgments of the judge.
The resolution stated that the collegium is conscious of the fact that the officer has recently retired from the Delhi Higher Judicial Service on 30.09.2023. therefore, the Collegium is of the considered view that she is suitable for appointment as a judge of the Delhi High Court.
However, the resolution stated with regards to the appointment of Ravinder Dudeja who is presently the Registrar General of the Delhi High Court, thus, it has been stated that the Judgment Evaluation Committee has also given an ‘A’ rating to his judgments.
The resolution stated while considering the long experience of the officer in judicial service, merit and integrity, and is of the opinion that the officer is suitable for appointment as a judge of the Delhi High Court.
The Supreme Court Collegium has taken note of the fact that the proposal involves the non-recommendation of a senior judicial officer. It has also been stated by the Supreme Court Collegium that the cogent reasons have been recorded by the Collegium of the High Court for not recommending his name. thus, this court is in agreement with the Collegium of the High Court for not recommending his name.
