The Supreme Court collegium has recommended the names for the appointment of five advocates as the judges of Punjab and Haryana High Court
The names of five advocates are as follows:
1.Advocate Harmeet Singh Grewal
2.Advocate Deepinder Singh Nalwa,
3.Advocate Sumeet Goel,
4.Advocate Sudeepti Sharma and
5.Advocate Kirti Singh.
The Supreme Court Collegium in its resolution dated 21.04.2023, the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in consultation with his two senior-most colleagues has recommended the elevation of five Advocates as Judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Thus, the Chief Ministers and the Governors for the States of Punjab and Haryana have concurred with the said recommendation.
Advocate Harmeet Singh Grewal
The Supreme Court Collegium stated that two of the three consultee-Judges have unanimously given a positive opinion on the suitability of him as the judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Advocate Deepinder Singh Nalwa
The Supreme Court Collegium stated that Nalwa has extensive practice which is reflected in a substantial number of reported judgments which are delivered in the cases in which he appeared or has argued. Therefore, all the three consultee-Judges have unanimously given positive opinion on the suitability Nalwa.
Advocate Sumeet Goel
The Supreme Court Collegium stated that two of the three consultee-Judges have unanimously given a positive opinion on suitability of the candidate for the appointment as the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Further, the inputs provided by the Department of Justice and the file indicate that the candidate enjoys a good personal image and that nothing adverse as to her integrity has come to notice.
