The Supreme Court in the case observed and has permitted the former Member of Parliament, MP and the Rashtriya Janata Dal, RJD the leader Prabhunath Singh who was being convicted in the double murder case of 1995 by the Apex Court on August 18, 2023 for appearing virtually to be heard on the question of his sentence.
The bench comprising of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia in the case observed and has permitted Singh to appear virtually before the court on September 01, 2023.
The Court in the case observed and has directed Singh to be produced before the Court on 01.09.2023 by the Secretary, Department of Home, State of Bihar and the Director General of Police, Bihar in its judgement dated August 18, 2023.
The Apex Court in the case observed and has stated that the applicant or the respondent No. 2 is being permitted for appearing virtually through video conferencing on September 01, 2023 for hearing the question of sentence, instead of the physical appearance as it has been directed vide judgement dated August 18, 2023.
The Court in the case observed and has convicted Singh in the double murder case of 1995, while reversing the acquittal of him granted by the trial court and confirmed by the Patna High Court. Thus, Singh, who in the case was contesting elections as a candidate of the Bihar People’s Party, BPP then, was being accused of murdering two persons near the polling booth in Chhapra in March 1995 for not voting as per his suggestion.
