The Kerala High Court stayed the cheating case against Bollywood actor Sunny Leone and two others on Monday after she filed a petition to quash the case.

On Tuesday, the actor asked the court to dismiss the cheating case filed against her by the crime branch on a complaint alleging that she cheated event organisers in Kochi three years ago after receiving an advance.

After admitting her petition, the single bench of Justice Ziyad Rahman stayed all proceedings until the petition was resolved.

M Shiyas, a resident of Perumbavur in Kochi, filed a complaint with the then-director general of police Loknath Behra, who later directed the crime branch to investigate. However, after the complaint was filed, she told police officials that she was ready to attend the function or return the money, but the organisers’ lack of interest delayed it. Later, she was questioned twice about the complaint.

She admitted that her manager took 30 lakh and gave them dates, but the organisers had to change the programme several times.

She stated that the proposal came up during her month-long vacation in Kerala in February 2019. However, the petitioner contended that it was a breach of trust because the actor failed to appear for the event after accepting a 30 lakh advance. The FIR also named Karanjit Kaur alias Sunny Leone’s husband Daniel Weber and their manager Sunil Rajani.

All three had previously been granted pre-arrest bail by the high court.
