The last rites of Shri National Rajput Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi were performed in a sombre atmosphere in the Gogamedi village of Hanumangarh district on Thursday. People from across the state, besides the village, paid their respects, and a large crowd gathered during Gogamedi’s funeral procession.
Gogamedi’s body was handed over to the family on Thursday morning. After offering condolences at the Rajput Sabha Bhawan and Bhawani Niketan in Jaipur, the funeral procession for Gogamedi’s village departed around 8 am. During this, homage was also paid to Gogamedi at various places along the 400 km route. The procession included police forces. Traffic was halted on the entire route from Jaipur to Hanumangarh to create a corridor, escorting the procession to its destination. The convoy of vehicles in the funeral procession reached Gogamedi in the evening, where the last rites were performed around 6 pm.
The procession passed through Sikar, Laxmangarh, Fatehpur, Churu, Taranagar, and Bhadra before reaching Gogamedi village. The body was placed for the final viewing in front of the Gogamedi temple. People from all over the state, besides Gogamedi village, paid their respects. Protests also continued in several places on Thursday:
There was a statewide shutdown on Wednesday in protest against the Gogamedi murder case. Even on Thursday, people protested by closing markets in Hanumangarh, Tonk, Shri Ganganagar, Sirohi, Alwar, and Laxmangarh.
Case number 567/2023 registered:
ADG Dinesh M.N. stated that in the Gogamedi murder case, case number 567/2023 has been registered against Nitin Fauji, son of Krishna Jat from Dungar Jat village (Mahendragarh district, Haryana), and Rohit Singh Rathore, son of Giridhar Singh from Jasuriya village (Makrana, Nagaur). Charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 323, 341, 452, 307, 302, 34, 120B, and provisions of the Arms Act 1959, have been applied.
An IPS officer may also face action:
The victim’s family members, in the FIR, have accused the police of negligence in providing security. Due to this, on Wednesday night, including the SHO of Shyamnagar police station, two policemen were suspended. The anger of the relatives has not subsided with this action. Punjab Police had written a letter to the Rajasthan Police about the suspicion of Gogamedi’s murder about 9 months ago, due to which the Rajasthan Police had requested security from the DGP. The DGP had marked their demand letter and sent it to the Commissionerate, but the Commissionerate did not provide police security to Gogamedi on time. The police headquarters is also investigating this matter, and the possibility of action against an IPS officer in the Commissionerate is being considered.
Revelations from Gogamedi’s Postmortem Report
The murderers, in a calculated manner, fired bullets into the head of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, the chief of Shri National Rajput Karni Sena. Nitin Jat, also known as Fauji, who came from Haryana to execute the murder, fired the last shot at Gogamedi’s head from close range. The postmortem report from SMS Hospital has revealed that the attackers fired a total of 7 bullets into Gogamedi’s body. The report indicates that two bullets were found in Gogamedi’s corpse, while five bullets exited the body after penetrating it. Gogamedi was shot twice each in the chest, arms, and legs, while a close-range shot was fired into his head. The police say that Nitin Jat, a sharpshooter from Haryana involved in the murder, fired the final shot into Gogamedi’s head before fleeing.
The other deceased, Navin Singh Shekhawat, also suffered 6 gunshot wounds from the attackers. The police believe that the murderers intentionally killed Navin to eliminate evidence because Navin had arranged a meeting between the two killers and Gogamedi. The police will now interrogate this councillor as well. Navin had booked a Scorpio for the killers using his ID, which the police seized from outside Gogamedi’s house. It contained a bottle of alcohol and glasses. After committing the murder, the two assailants also shot Hemraj Soyal, a passerby, in the chest and stole his scooter. Based on Hemraj’s statement, a separate case has been registered at Shyamnagar police station.
