A startling incident occurred at Axis Bank in Dheemanpura, Shamli, on Tuesday around 2 PM when a masked man entered the bank manager’s cabin, armed with a “suicide note and a bag.” The individual claimed to have an outstanding home loan of ₹38.5 lakh, expressing distress over an impending property auction that threatened to leave his children homeless.
Calm Conversation Turns to Hostage Situation
For approximately 30 minutes, the man engaged the bank manager, Naman Jain, in conversation about his loan situation. However, the atmosphere shifted dramatically when the man revealed that he was carrying a gun and demanded ₹40 lakh, threatening to harm himself or the manager if his request was not fulfilled.
In a panic, fearing for his life, Manager Jain quickly summoned the cashier, and they handed over the ₹40 lakh to the masked man, who then exited the bank premises. At the time of the incident, there were around 25-26 people inside the bank, including 10-12 staff members.
Details of the Incident
According to Shamli Superintendent of Police (SP) Ramsevak Gautam, the robbery unfolded within the main branch of Axis Bank. Although the manager could not identify the robber or confirm the presence of a weapon, a security guard at the bank asserted that the suspect displayed a firearm during the confrontation.
Police Investigation Underway
SP Gautam stated that special teams are actively investigating the incident and exploring all possible angles. They are in the process of questioning bank staff and reviewing the situation. As of now, a formal complaint has yet to be lodged by the bank, but police have registered a case concerning the robbery.
This alarming event highlights the ongoing issues surrounding bank security and the lengths individuals may go to in desperate situations. The police continue to seek leads in hopes of apprehending the suspect.
