In the wake of a high-level meeting led by Home Minister Amit Shah to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, security forces are gearing up to implement the ‘J&K Security Plan 2024’ on the ground. This meticulously crafted eight-point plan, developed in close coordination with Jammu and Kashmir Police, sister intelligence agencies, and the Indian Army, has received the green light from Home Minister Shah, signaling a unified stance against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in the region.
The comprehensive plan, previously briefed to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Army Chief General Manoj Pandey, has a primary objective of neutralizing groups of 25-30 terrorists, predominantly composed of trained Pakistani militants, operating in the twin districts of Pir Panjal—Rajouri and Poonch. A crucial aspect of the operation is dismantling the support network for these terrorists, including the apprehension of local Over Ground Workers aiding their sustenance in the area.
To expedite operations, intelligence gathering will be bolstered, involving an enhanced on-ground presence of Central Intelligence agencies and collaboration with local resources. The Indian Army is entrusted with reinforcing the border security grid in conjunction with the Border Security Force along the Line of Control, with a specific focus on thwarting any infiltration attempts by Pakistani terrorists exploiting dense fog for cover.
The fifth pivotal element of the ‘J&K Security Plan 2024’ revolves around taking action against social media handlers based in Pakistan who disseminate anti-India propaganda to destabilize Jammu and Kashmir. In 2023, J&K Police identified 8,000 such handles. Concurrently, efforts will intensify to scrutinize the properties of terror associates and terrorists from J&K operating from Pakistan. Kishtwar Police has initiated the process for the attachment of properties belonging to 36 such terrorists based in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
The overarching strategy for 2024 includes a robust initiative to mobilize and enhance Village Defence Groups, strengthening community-driven security efforts. Additionally, strategically deploying officers with proficient intelligence and counterinsurgency skills in terrorism-affected regions aims to fortify both preventive and responsive measures. The ‘J&K Security Plan 2024’ underscores a resolute effort to eradicate the menace of terrorism, safeguarding the peace and stability of the region.
