Farmers in Haryana are preparing to march to Delhi on February 13 to protest and advocate for their demand for a legal guarantee on the minimum support price (MSP) for crops. Leading up to the planned march, farm unions have declared several tractor marches in Punjab and Haryana to raise awareness among the farming community.

As per the schedule released by the farm leaders, tractor marches will be held at Cheeka in Kaithal district (Feb 1), Kurukshetra (Feb 2), Lalru in SAS Nagar and Ghannaur in Patiala (Feb 3), Pinjore in Panchkula district (Feb 4) and Bilaspur in Yamunanagar district (Feb 5).

The members of various farm unions are going to villages and holding meetings with farmers and urging them to participate in these tractor marches and in the Feb 13 march to Delhi.

The leaders of the farming community asserted that preparations for the Delhi march were in full swing, and they were receiving a positive response and support from fellow farmers.

Mohri said to spread awareness among farmers, a call had been given to organise tractor marches across Haryana. Gurnam Singh Charuni, the president of BKU Charuni, said: “Our union has not received any information or invitation about the Delhi march on Feb 13. We are also not expecting anyone to come with an invitation as the unions which have given this call are part of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (apolitical).”

When asked whether BKU Charuni would support the call, Charuni said: “The unions should have held a discussion with us before giving such a call, so that it was a common event. Now there is no question of going after them when they did not discuss in advance.”
