Despite some challenges including a heavy vehicle breakdown and poor road conditions, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway maintained its accessibility for two-way traffic of passenger Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) on Saturday, providing relief to commuters.

Traffic authorities reported that while the highway was operational, traffic movement experienced delays primarily due to a heavy vehicle breakdown within the Chenani-Nashri tunnel and poor surface conditions at various points between Nashri and Banihal, including Dalwass, Mehar-Cafeteria, Ramban, Panthyal Magarkote, Shalgari, Nachlana, among others.

Despite these obstacles, hundreds of LMVs and heavy vehicles managed to traverse the Nashri-Banihal sector without significant interruption throughout the day.
Officials emphasized that heavy load carriers bound for Jammu were being regulated to ensure smooth traffic flow.

The Traffic Control Unit (TCU) in Ramban confirmed that the highway was open for the passage of private cars, passenger LMVs, and one-way traffic for heavy vehicles. Looking ahead, the J&K Traffic Police Department issued a fresh advisory for Sunday, contingent upon favorable weather conditions and road clearance. According to the advisory, LMVs would continue to be permitted on both sides of the highway, while heavy vehicles would be allowed from Jakhani, Udhampur, towards Kashmir after a thorough assessment of road and traffic conditions.

Commuters were urged to adhere to lane discipline, particularly in the Nashri-Banihal sectors, to ensure safety and efficient traffic management. Despite challenges, the ongoing accessibility of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway represents a crucial lifeline for transportation in the region,

underscoring the efforts of authorities to facilitate smooth travel amidst varying conditions.
