BSP’S STRATEGIC MOVE

Ahead of Municipal elections and 2024 General election , Vishwanath Pal, has been appointed as the new president in Uttar Pradesh by BSP chief Mayawati. Pal has replaced Bhim Rajbhar who was appointed to the post in November 2020 and has been assigned the role of coordinator in Bihar. This change of the state unit president is seen as the Mayawati’s strategy to receive the support of the extremely backward caste (EBC). The BSP is working on the DalitMuslim-OBC formula. Viswanath Pal belongs to gadariya community (MBC). He was chief sector coordinator of Ayodhya, Mirzapur and Prayagraj division.

UNITING OPPOSITION THROUGH YATRA

Invitations have been extended by Congress party to several leaders, including Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, BSP supremo Mayawati, RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary and OM Prakash Rajbhar to join the Uttar Pradesh leg of its ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra. However, political observers find this as a Congress move to unite non-BJP parties through the Yatra ahead of General elections in 2024. In the meantime, former Union minister Salman Khurshid has linked the Bharat Jodo Yatra to the epic Ramayana.

BJP’S MAYORAL CANDIDATE
