The Delhi Government’s Tourism Department organized the annual two-day Shahpur Jat Festival in the Greater Kailash constituency, inaugurated by Tourism Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj.
Held on December 24 and 25 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, the festival features an array of cultural events, including Haryanvi folk dances, Ragini performances, stand-up comedy, magic shows, puppet plays, and a traditional ramp walk showcasing Haryana’s cultural attire.
The highlight of the event is live performances by renowned singers Ajay Hooda and Ruchika Jangid.
As the name suggests, Shahpur Jat is a village predominantly inhabited by the Jat community, and the festival reflects their cultural preferences.
The Delhi Tourism Department has curated performances celebrating Haryana’s rich heritage, including Haryanvi music and folk traditions. Additionally, the event features food stalls offering Haryanvi delicacies and other traditional Indian dishes, providing visitors with a chance to enjoy a diverse culinary experience alongside the cultural showcase.
Shahpur Jat has also gained recognition as a hub for fashion, particularly bridal and wedding attire. The village is home to numerous showrooms of renowned clothing brands from Delhi and across India. Reflecting this reputation, the festival includes stalls displaying exquisite garments, offering visitors an opportunity to explore and purchase wedding and festive attire, further enhancing the festive atmosphere.
Speaking at the event, Tourism Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj emphasized the importance of cultural preservation.
He stated, “Events like these allow our younger generation to connect with our age-old traditions and heritage. Such programmes ensure that the customs and values passed down by our ancestors remain alive in the hearts of future generations, enabling them to carry forward this rich legacy.”
He further added, “The primary goal of organizing the Shahpur Jat Festival is to preserve and promote our ancestral traditions and ensure they remain vibrant and celebrated for generations to come.”
