Sachin Tendulkar has been invited to be made a life member of Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) said the club in its report on Friday. It also said that Melbourne Cricket Ground, managed and developed by the club, is one of the most popular cricketing places in the world. One of Australia’s oldest sporting clubs, MCC was started as far back as in the year 1838.
The MCC released its announcement on ‘X, proclaiming, “An icon honoured. The MCC is pleased to announce that former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar has accepted an Honorary Cricket Membership, acknowledging his outstanding contribution to the game.”

Tendulkar has scored 449 runs across five Test matches at an average of 44.90 and a strike rate of 58.69 with three half-centuries to his name. He holds the record for most runs scored at MCG. Tendulkar was also bestowed the prestigious Order of Australia in 2012.
India and Australia are now tied at 1-1, and the series-deciding fourth and penultimate Test match is scheduled at the MCG.
