Indian skipper Rohit Sharma delivered a stunning performance, surpassing Virat Kohli to become the leading run-scorer in the T20I format and equaling Pakistan captain Babar Azam’s record for most T20I wins as a captain. In a thrilling match against Australia, Rohit scored 92 off 41 balls, bringing his total T20I runs to 4,165 in 157 matches with an average of 32.03 and a strike rate of 140.75. This pushed Babar Azam to the second spot with 4,145 runs in 123 matches at an average of 41.03, and Kohli to third with 4,103 runs in 123 matches at an average of 48.84.

Rohit’s performance not only secured his record but also led India to a significant 24-run victory over Australia, defending a target of 205. This win marked Rohit’s 48th T20I victory as a captain, tying him with Babar Azam for the most T20I wins as a captain, both having achieved 48 wins in their respective tenures.

India’s victory ensured their place in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup, where they will face England in Guyana. Celebrations and congratulations poured in on social media, with BCCI secretary Jay Shah praising Rohit’s performance and expressing optimism for India’s chances to win the World Cup. Jay Shah’s message on X highlighted Rohit’s brilliance with the bat and India’s unbeaten run leading into the semi-finals.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha also lauded the Indian team’s performance, reflecting the widespread admiration and support for the Men in Blue following their impressive win against Australia.
