Rohit Sharma on World Cup 2023 Heartbreaking Loss: “Next morning I Asked my wife if it was a bad dream?”

India captain Rohit Sharma shared his emotional turmoil following India’s loss to Australia in the ODI World Cup final last year. Recalling the heartbreaking defeat, Rohit revealed that he initially questioned whether the entire experience was just a “bad dream,” seeking solace from his wife the morning after the match. He confessed to feeling frustrated and angry at himself, needing time to process the loss and come to terms with the fact that India would have to wait four more years for another chance at the trophy.

In a candid interaction with Adidas India, Rohit expressed his desire to swiftly complete post-match routines and retreat from the field, unable to bear the disappointment of defeat. He admitted to being consumed by negative emotions in the aftermath of the loss, struggling to comprehend the turn of events.

Despite India entering the final as favourites, Australia’s dominance on a sluggish pitch led to India’s defeat. Rohit’s valiant innings of 47 off 31 balls provided India with a solid start, but his dismissal halted their momentum. India ultimately fell short, being bundled out for 240 runs, while Travis Head’s century secured victory for Australia.

Having processed the disappointment, Rohit has now shifted his focus to the T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies, leading India with determination. India kicked off their campaign with a convincing 8-wicket win against Ireland in New York, showcasing Rohit’s leadership and resilience following the previous setback.
