It happens sometimes, says Vijender after losing to Lopsan

Panaji (Goa) [India], March 20 (ANI): Boxer Vijender Singh faced defeat against Russian Artysh Lopsan via technical knockout (TKO) in the fifth round of an eight-round bout on the rooftop of the Majestic Pride Casino Ship on Friday and while he was dejected that his unbeaten run came to an end, he did admit that these things do happen when you are an athlete.
After his game on Friday night, Vijender in a tweet said,” It’s happened some time.”
Both boxers were knocked off their feet in the first four rounds, with Vijender losing his balance twice in round 4. The knockout punch was landed by Lopsan in round 5 as the referee deemed Vijender unfit to continue and handed the bout to Lopsan.
Before this match, the Olympic bronze medal winner pugilist enjoyed a 12-game winning streak in the professional boxing career since starting his career in 2015.
Earlier this week, Vijender had said that the height of his opponent Lopsan won’t matter when both of them step inside the ring.
“He is tall and I will take it slow at the start but I’m confident of beating him nonetheless. Height is not everything and in boxing, you need strength and strategy. I have experience under my belt and Lopsan is still a kid. My unbeaten streak will continue after March 19 and I’m sure everyone will witness an amazing day of boxing. The tougher the opponent, the more fun to beat him”, the Olympic Bronze medalist Vijender had said.
Whereas a man of few words Artysh Lopsan had said that his actions will come into play rather than words. “Vijender is a good fighter but I’m here to beat his undefeated streak. I’m ready for him to knock him out in the early round. It would be great to beat him in front of his audience. I’m sure Vijender will have very tough time in the ring while facing me”, he had said.
