The BCCI acknowledged this milestone as a significant moment in Indian cricket history. “#OnThisDay in 1983! In the 1983 World Cup final against West Indies, India batted first and scored 183 runs. Despite a challenging target, India’s bowlers restricted West Indies to 140, securing a memorable 43-run victory. Kapil Dev lifting the trophy at Lord’s Cricket Ground remains an iconic moment for Indian fans.
Mohinder Amarnath was named Man of the Match for his all-round performance in the final, contributing with both bat and ball. Since its inception in 1975, India has been a consistent participant in the World Cup, with the tournament being held every four years.
