UP Rudras secured their second consecutive win, joining Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers at the top of the table with six points in the Hero Hockey India League 2024-25. On the other hand, Soorma, despite a shootout win, remains at two points. However, Soorma’s defensive errors and scoring struggles contributed to a one-sided defeat.
Quick Start for UP
The match began with a bang as UP struck early. In the second minute, Sudeep Chirmako scored off a rebound, putting UP in the lead. In response, Soorma launched an attack, earning several penalty corners. Unfortunately, without Harmanpreet Singh on the field, Soorma couldn’t make use of these opportunities.
UP Dominates Possession
UP stuck to their strategy, focusing on open goals. They consistently entered Soorma’s circle, applying constant pressure. Meanwhile, Hardik Singh played a pivotal role, controlling the midfield and creating attacking opportunities throughout the game.
UP Extends the Lead
In the third quarter, UP doubled their advantage. Floris Wortelboer sent an aerial pass from midfield, which Chirmako expertly controlled near the baseline. Chirmako then passed to Jobanpreet Singh, who deflected the ball into the net. Later, in the 58th minute, Akashdeep Singh added a third goal, finishing a play that Hardik had set up with a brilliant run.
Soorma’s Missed Opportunities
Soorma earned a total of 10 penalty corners, including four in a row. Additionally, they earned two penalty corners at the end of the game. Despite these chances, UP’s goalkeeper James Mazarelo and first rusher Lars Balk effectively shut down Soorma’s attempts, leaving Harmanpreet Singh unable to convert any of his six penalty corners.
UP Overpowers Soorma
In the end, Soorma couldn’t break through UP’s defense. Despite some late pressure, they were outplayed across all areas of the field. UP’s solid defense and effective attack were too much for Soorma to handle.
