India’s captain Rohit Sharma on Wednesday, shattered several records, becoming the first batter in history to hit 600 sixes in international cricket. The ‘Hitman’ climbed multiple record lists with his impressive performance in India’s T20 World Cup opener against Ireland at Nassau Stadium in New York. Chasing a modest target of 97 on a challenging pitch, Rohit surpassed the 4000-run milestone in T20Is.
Rohit Sharma required 26 runs to reach the 4000-run mark in T20Is, achieving this feat in the 6th over of the chase. He became only the third batter to reach this milestone, following Virat Kohli (4037) and Babar Azam (4023).
In the 9th over, he then reached 1000 T20 World Cup runs, making him the third batter to achieve this milestone, following Virat Kohli and Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene (1016).
Rohit also hit three sixes against the Irish bowlers, becoming the first batter to achieve 600 sixes in international cricket. The India opener, with 4137 runs in Tests, 10709 in ODIs, and 4001* in T20Is, joined Virat Kohli (8848 in Tests, 13848 in ODIs, and 4038 in T20Is) as one of the few players to score 4000 runs in each of the three formats in international cricket.
