In a heart-breaking incident near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, five Army soldiers lost their lives, and several others were injured when their vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge, officials confirmed on Sunday.
The accident occurred as the Army vehicle was traveling from Nilam Headquarters to Balnoi Ghora Post. The mishap happened near Ghora Post, prompting a swift response from a Quick Reaction Team that launched an immediate rescue operation.
“Eighteen soldiers were on board the vehicle when it crashed. Ten sustained injuries, with five critically injured soldiers succumbing to their wounds later,” an official stated.
A major rescue operation ensued, with efforts focused on retrieving the injured and providing urgent medical care.
The Army’s White Knight Corps expressed profound grief over the tragic loss.
“All ranks of #WhiteKnightCorps extend their deepest condolences on the tragic loss of five brave soldiers in a vehicle accident during operational duty in the #Poonch sector. Rescue operations are ongoing, and the injured personnel are receiving medical care,” the Corps stated in a post on X.
Authorities have also ordered enquiry in this matter.
