The Delhi Congress unit has strongly criticized the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for allegedly deceiving Delhiites by making false promises and manipulating their emotions.
Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav accused Kejriwal of being on an announcement spree ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, particularly following his release on bail. Yadav highlighted Kejriwal’s latest promise of “round-the-clock” water supply at Pandav Nagar DDA flats in the Rajinder Nagar area, where he assured uninterrupted water flow even to residents on the third floor.
However, Yadav pointed out the irony of this promise, noting that for the majority of Delhi’s population, potable water remains a luxury, forcing them to rely on the tanker mafia for their needs. He sarcastically remarked that the only time Delhiites experience uninterrupted water supply is during the monsoon, when the city faces severe waterlogging due to poorly maintained drains and sewers under Kejriwal’s decade-long tenure.
Yadav urged Kejriwal to visit slum clusters, resettlement areas, and unauthorized colonies to witness the dire struggles people face in accessing drinking water. He noted that for residents of these areas, even a trickle of water for a few minutes daily through Delhi Jal Board (DJB) pipes is considered fortunate.
According to Yadav, under the Kejriwal government, the tanker mafia has been allowed to exploit the poor, as Kejriwal’s “free” water supply scheme is nothing more than a betrayal of the people of Delhi. He alleged that Kejriwal himself advised residents to refrain from paying the inflated water bills they receive, which contradicts his “free” water promises. Yadav claimed that Kejriwal’s assurances of “free” water, like many of his other commitments, exist only on paper.
Yadav further accused Kejriwal of misleading residents with numerous “free” schemes while personally benefiting from corruption scandals. He alleged that these so-called freebies only serve to enrich Kejriwal and his associates, whom he described as a “team of looters” exploiting taxpayers.
Yadav pointed to alleged scams involving the liquor policy, classroom construction, DTC bus procurement and maintenance contracts, the construction of the Chief Minister’s “Sheesh Mahal,” and other corrupt practices. He asserted that these schemes allowed Kejriwal to amass wealth at the expense of Delhi’s residents.
Yadav concluded by stating that Kejriwal, in an apparent attempt to atone for his various scams, is now making extravagant promises of “free” services to mislead voters and divert attention from his failures.
