Alex Carey takes advice from ex-Australian keepers to cement his place

Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey has made it clear that he maintains relationships with several former Australian wicketkeepers and often takes their advice as his Test career has been gaining momentum. However, he hasn’t been able to cement his place in the Test team yet.

Since the start of the century, only seven keepers have stood behind the wicket for Australia at Test level. Rod Marsh and Ian Healy were role models for the next generation, and Carey has been closely following both the great keepers.

Former wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist handed Carey the baggy green when he made his Test debut against England in Brisbane in 2021.

Currently, Carey is in England and looking to take part in the ICC World Test Championship Final against India, to be played at The Oval. After that, the Australian side will have to play the much-awaited Ashes series.

“The beauty of representing Australia as a wicketkeeper is that it’s a pretty small club,” Carey said.

Carey went on to say that “Adam Gilchrist was my idol when I was a youngster. I have worked with several wicketkeepers, like Ian Healy, Graham Manou, Tim Paine, and Matthew Wave. It is really a wonderful experience to take advice from these guys. It is a small club, but it is nice to hear from them.
