A Spanish woman, who was on a bike tour with her husband, was sexually assaulted by a group of men in Jharkhand’s Dumka on Friday night. The woman became a victim of a gang rape in at Kurumahat, where the tourist couple was spending the night in a tent near the Hansdiha police station.
SP Pitambar Singh Kherwar reached the crime scene with a team of police officials and later three persons were taken into custody. “The gangrape incident happened on Friday night,” Santosh Kumar, a sub divisional police officer in Jarmundi, told PTI.
Speaking under anonymity, a second official indicated that the tragic incident included seven or eight young men, all residents of the area.
The woman was reportedly going to Nepal on a bike excursion with her spouse. The pair was traveling from Dumka in Jharkhand to Bhagalpur in Bihar when they decided to take a night halt. She was attacked and gang-raped when sleeping in her tent.
In her police complaint, the woman stated that she and her husband set up a tent at a barren place close to Hansdiha Market in Dumka. The woman said that some young people from the area forced their way into the tent while she was asleep and started raping her one by one. The accused also brutally thrashed her, according to the woman’s complaint.
She was brought to Saraiyahat CHC for treatment after the event. A case has been registered and police has launched a massive manhunt to track and apprehend the culprits.
